Ecole Centrale Casablanca is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher
The Complex Systems and Interactions Research Center at Ecole Centrale Casablanca (ECC) is pleased
to announce an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the field of materials engineering.
Research Focus:
Metallic materials are widely used in a variety of fields, but they are susceptible to corrosion, an
undesirable process that affects the durability and performance of metallic materials through the redox
reactions, which can cause serious damage to infrastructure, the environment and the economy. To
reduce corrosion risks and losses, corrosion protection technologies are needed, such as corrosionresistant alloys, anti-corrosion coatings, corrosion inhibitors and cathodic protection techniques.
However, corrosion behavior is influenced by many factors, such as the chemical composition,
microstructure and spatial heterogeneity of metal alloys, which are affected by processing conditions
as well as the environmental conditions to which they are exposed. The project, “Atomic-scale
clarification of corrosion resistance mechanisms in CSAF-based metallic materials by Quantum
Modeling”, is in the field of materials engineering and surface treatment, particularly in the area of
stainless-steel corrosion. This type of material is often used in environments exposed to corrosive
conditions, such as chemical, petroleum, marine and other industries. This project aims to use
computational techniques based on quantum mechanics and thermodynamics to study and predict the
corrosion resistance behavior of stainless-steel surfaces. These models could provide an understanding
of atomic and molecular interactions at the quantum scale, offering detailed information on corrosion
mechanisms and ways of countering or preventing them. The use of quantum modeling approaches
enables the identification of key factors contributing to the corrosion resistance of stainless-steel
surfaces, which could lead to the development of improved coatings, surface treatment techniques or
more corrosion-resistant materials. This type of research is essential for industry, as a better
understanding of corrosion processes and how to prevent them can lead to the development of longerlasting, safer and better-performing materials in a whole range of industrial and technological
applications.
